Some Current Life Drawing

Winding down a run of life drawing work at a particular location, so here's a few current samples. Finally feel like I'm getting back to some of the train of thought I had many years ago when I did this constantly. It took almost a year it turns out. There are still some things I feel I did better then, that I'd like to regain, but there are some new approaches to problems that were definitely not there years ago.
One would hope, right?

  1. Yeah...it's weird. If I don't sketch for a long time it comes out crappy. For me it's not like riding a bike, you know? Anyways....great life drawings.

  2. Thanks! I hear you-to me it really is more like practicing a musicial instrument or working out at the gym. You really have to work on various things all the time. It takes some doing to maintain the necessary focus.

  3. Ahhh these are wonderful. Aside from the beauty of the figures themselves, I really like how you work just enough of the background into the compositions to 'ground' them. This is something I always wimp out on. :)

Looking at these makes me resolve to sign up for life drawing again--I miss it.

  4. Thanks Chrissie. Life drawing is a welcome, important addition to my current weekly routine. I painted for years, and it's not the same. At least for me. This seems more essential to the process for me.

It took a while to get back to finishing enough of the figure to consider the background. To try to work in those element gives more design possibities to a drawing for me. I just have to watch the impulse to record everything I see.

  6. Thanks Kamal! The above drawings are relatively new . I've actually been doing a lot of different things so I haven't had the opportunity to get around my blogs and the different boards. Hopefully things will focus soon. :)
